This blog was supposed to come out …oooo about a month ago! But we’ve been busy busy busy here at Fogo!
So last month we zipped over to Munich to lust at snowboards, skateboards and surf gear. So many amazing products coming out, but here’s a pick of our favourites!
OK top pick was Feisty snowboards – their new boards for 2016 are lush! We loved the super absorbent towel that isn’t a towel from bubel and loved the new range of board bindings from Flux. Other brands we chatted to were the guys from Absolute Skateboards and the clever people at Snokart and Glidesoul.
We got our networking fix with all the fantastic ladies at the Women In Boardsports Lunch where we listened to fab talks from Neon Stash’s Hannah Bailey and Jin Moen from…..
The Women In Boardsports crew are a truly inspiring bunch of ladies – all of them are either running successful businesses in the boardsports arena and/or are pro riders campaigning for fair dibs for girls in boardsports especially the way in which we’re represented in some of the boardsports’ brands marketing. It’s a fact that when a campaign features Kelly Slater, any of the top surfer dudes or even one of the up and coming male groms, the focus is always on the way they’re nailing gnarly bombs and ripping- with pics to reflect that, but with lots of the female surfers the focus is often on them not even surfing – maybe holding a board and sitting legs akimbo on a motorbike or beach chair. Not really representative of all those feisty girls nailing all the toughest breaks up there with the lads. Personally I don’t think we should go hunting down perceived inequalities where there aren’t any and become humourless about everything, but we should treat female athletes with the same kudos and respect as the guys.
ISPO is huge and we just stuck to drinking in all of the boardsports brand action – including watching the pros on the Volcom skate ramp.
Munich is a cracker of a city so of course we made the very best of the German hospitality with a visit to the famous Hoffbrauhaus for a fix of Weissbier and wurst before we left. Suffice to say we’ll be back next year. Auf wiedersehen Munchen!!
